The Number One Feature I Want To See in iPadOS 14

iPadOS 14 Extended Display Support

I’m sure some will disagree with me on its importance, but there is a feature that iPad power users have wanted for years that is close enough to feel within reach now. If you look at the evolution of the iPad Pro over the last 18 months, it also makes perfect sense. Everything required for this to work properly is now lined up and in place. The feature I want to see added to iPadOS right now more than any other is multi-screen support.

Reasons Why Apple’s New iPadOS Trackpad Support is a Big Success

iPad Pro with trackpad
Those of us on the Developer Beta track have gotten close to two full weeks to kick the tires on Apple’s new iPadOS trackpad support at this point. The early reviews have been almost universally positive and I have to agree based on what I’ve seen. So what is it exactly that has made this new feature such a hit? Here are a few reasons that stand out to me.

The 2020 iPad Pro: The 12.9 is Heading Back to Apple

2020 12.9 iPad Pro

It’s only been a few days, but I think I’m entering new territory here. After kicking the tires on both 2020 iPad Pro sizes, I just don’t see a compelling reason to upset my apple cart (yeah, I know) and get rid of my 2018 12.9″ Pro. I don’t have a need for LiDAR and most of the small upgrades that are included don’t impact the way I use the device at work or at home.

Is TouchID Coming to the Apple Watch?

Apple Watch Series 6 TouchID
I certainly hope so! According to the YouTube channel iUpdate, it’s in the works for the coming Apple Watch Series 6. Right now this all just the early rumor and Apple patent watch phase, which doesn’t have the best track record. However, the addition of biometrics fits with the evolution of Apple hardware that we put our hands on and would provide an additional measure of security for the company’s most personal of devices.

iPhone plus Apple Watch Charging Cable

If you are a road warrior, then you know how to pack light. The fewer things you can carry in your bag, the better. The more an accessory can multitask, the more it earns its place. For those of us who have both an iPhone and an Apple Watch, here is one such item that can take care of two tasks with one cable and one charging brick.

The 2020 iPad Pro: The 11″ is a Beautiful Piece of Hardware

2020 11” iPad Pro

I have owned and used the 12.9″ version of the iPad Pro since the Summer of 2016, when I first purchased a used first-gen model. Despite trying out the 10.5″ version that came in the Summer of 2017 and then the 11″ version that arrived the following Fall, I have continued to use the larger device over the next two generations.

While I have reasons why the 12.9″ size works best for me in practical, everyday use, I can’t help but prefer the 11″ version from a perspective of pure hardware build. It’s just a great balance of size, weight and capability.

Meet the New iPad Pro. Pretty Much the Same as the Old iPad Pro

2020 iPad Pro

Normally it doesn’t take too much of an update to an iPad, iPhone or Apple Watch to still get me excited. I still want to get my hands on modest upgrades and see what these new devices bring to the table. Because of this, I was typically excited when new iPad Pros were announced last week. However, as the days wore on, the realization set in that most of the “new features” that came with these Pros were really the trackpad support, which applies to all iPads compatible with iPadOS 13.4, and the Magic Keyboard, which will also be compatible with the 2018 iPad Pros.

New iPad Pros Are Coming Tomorrow…

I’m an iPad fan and have been user since the original back in 2010. And here we are. This is an iPad-centric site and new iPad Pros are coming tomorrow. Normally I would be really excited. Normally there would be exclamation marks trailing the title of this post and I would be anticipating getting home from work to get my hands on new toys. Normally, we wouldn’t find ourselves in the middle of a pandemic.

Tips and Tricks: iPadOS 13.4 Trackpad and Mouse Settings

The release version of iPadOS 13.4 is on the way, and if you follow Apple news, then you doubtless already know that support for mice and trackpads is included. Maybe you are even running the developer beta already. I know I’ve enjoyed getting a sneak peak of this feature this week. I am very impressed with Apple’s implementation in my limited testing.

As simple as Apple’s implementation of iPadOS touchpad support is, there are still settings and options that let you customize the experience. Here’s a quick look at what you can adjust.

What better way to celebrate the arrival of mouse support in iPadOS 13.4 than by getting an Apple mouse? Weird Lightning changing port aside, this is an excellent mouse with touch gesture support that will be a perfect fit with your iPad running iPadOS 13.4. If you want the benefits of mouse support on your iPad before the new Magic Keyboard arrives, this is a good way to get it.
